Le Mont Saint Michel (Manche)

The train down was fun.
The ship was a floating casino.

Suddenly, it rose out of a field...
We crossed a causeway into another era...

Lots of steps...

Main street, MSM..

More steps...

The picture to the left shows Randy on the shore at low tide...

At sunset we sat in our room, drank wine, and watched the incoming tide
make MSM an island...
The next day we made the hike to the monastery for a tour of the top...

Dave at a medieval altar and in the Great Hall...
This is an inner court yard in the monastery...
Randy in the hoist the medieval monks used to pull supplies up the mountain side to the monastery...

We slipped through an unlocked door and up a spiral staircase that seemed to go on forever.
First we came across this great storeroom full of statues and fragments...
then we came out on the roof !!! Here is Randy on the roof's ledge above a sharp cliff and lapping water
straight down. A monk came out and chased us away. This was a tour off the beaten trail for sure!

We had a hard day climbing steps and exploring. We rested back in our room and watched the tide start to come in for the evening. Early the next morning we left Mont Saint Michel in the cold morning mist, ... but we took it with us in our hearts forever.
